FAO: Combatting malnutrition, promoting innovations to become top priorities

As of this week, the FAO Council 161st Session has started within Rome, FAO reports.
It is to be admitted, the Session is to work within this year Mar 812.
While speaking at the Session opening, FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva has said within the next two year FAO will focus on promoting nutrition-sensitive foods systems and agricultural innovations,
«We cannot only focus on tackling hunger anymore. The Sustainable Development Goal number 2 calls for the eradication of all forms of malnutrition. And there is a steady growth in the levels of overweight and obesity all around the world,» he stressed.
«While hunger is circumscribed to specific areas, obesity is everywhere. In fact, we are witnessing the globalization of obesity,» he added.
As to the report, the Session agenda, beside the main topics, also includes a series of side events, such as looking for the ways forward for biodiversity for foods/agriculture, and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the context of the One Health approach.
