Uzbekistan can resume sugar output
10.08.2018 22:39 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
This year, at least one of the Uzbekistan sugar plants can resume working, Ukrainian National Association of Sugar Producers says referring to Asatila Salimov, Deputy Head of Uzbekozikovatkholding, report.
It is to be admitted, as of 2017 end, two Uzbekistan sugar plants, Khozmi-Shakar and Angren Shakar (whose total sugar output is possible to reach 700,000 tons yearly), suspended working due to the Uzbekistan national currency devluation.
As Salimov, the national currency sharp devaluation has made the domestic market sugar prices jump to 6,000 Uzbekistan sums (RUB49) per kg and so the Uzbekistan authorities now have to fully satisfy the domestic market sugar demand only with the cheaper imported sugar.
Salimov admits that due to the fact that the national currency exchange course has sharply changed , Uzbekistan domestically made sugar has become uncompetitive. However, he says at least one of the Uzbekistan sugar plants is certain to start working this year, since the Uzbekistan authorities doesn’t want the domestic sugar remaining expensive.
As to Salimov, presently the Uzbekistan two sugar plants’ management is engaged in their plants’ logistics and other expenses’ optimizing in order to reduce the domestic sugar output cost price. Resources’ shipments are expected to start coming from Thailand or Cuba.
