Ukraine, Lebanon to strengthen agribusiness cooperation

As of this week, Ukrainian First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Maxim Martyniuk had a meeting with a delegation of the members of the National Assembly of the Lebanon, headed by the leader of the Lebanese-Ukrainian friendship group Michel Musso, Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food reports.
As to the report, within the meeting Ukraine and Lebanon prospects of the volumes of agricultural products’ bilateral trade enlarging and effective cooperation mechanisms’ introduction were discussed.
It is to be admitted, the event was also attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Lebanon Ihor Ostash, and representatives of the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy.
«Within recent few years, the Ukrainian export to Lebanon has been steadily growing. Significant dynamics has been registered also within the segment of livestock products. We try to support this trend - in part., by introducing within Ukraine a high level of financial interest-free support to the livestock sector,» Martyniuk said.
As an example, Martyniuk showed the dynamics of export to Lebanon of live animals (cattle, sheep, goats), which had started within 2016 and, within just one year, boosted by 6 times, up to US$14 million. He said he was certain that Ukrainian other goods export to Lebanon will show a similar boost.
As to the report, the Lebanese side has shown its interest in mutual trade further growth by, in part. boosting of the Ukrainian grains, vegetable oils, flour export to Lebanon and, correspondingly, enhancing of the Lebanese citrus, bananas and wine-products export to Ukraine. Also, the Lebanese side told that Ukrainian can regard Lebanon as a trade and economic hub ( through which it is possible to export products to other countries of the Middle East).
It is to be admitted, the Ukrainian-Lebanese business forum (scheduled for this year Apr in Kyiv) can become an important stage of bilateral relations’ development.
