Since now on, Ukrainian beet seeds can be shipped to EU
01.02.2018 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of yesterday, at their annual meeting in Paris, member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) gave permission for Ukraine to participate in full within international trade of yet another kind of seeds - namely, seeds of sugar/feed beet.
Until now, Ukraine has been a member of four OECD Seed Schemes (with these Schemes being an officially recognized tool for certification and facilitation of international seeds’ trade). Thus, in part., these are grain, maize, sorghum and textile crops (cross-flowers and other oilseeds). Now, the list of the OECD Seed Schemes has been enlarged with the sugar/feed beet seeds.
It is to be admitted, the seeds produced and processed due to the OECD Seed Schemes are to be accompanied with OECD labels and certificates.
As to the report, the decision to widen the Ukrainian participation within the OECD Seed Schemes will open the way for the Ukrainian sugar beet seeds to the world market, boost the quality of Ukrainian seed material, and stimulate the productivity of the Ukrainian main agricultural crops.
