Holiday of wine-growers, winemakers and gardeners may appear within Ukraine

25.01.2018 17:13 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — At its today meeting, Cabinet has decided to establish a new Ukrainian professional holiday, a holiday of wine-growers, winemakers and gardeners, Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food reports. As to the report, the new holiday will be marked annually on the second Sun of Nov. It is to be admitted, the draft decision was developed by the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy on the initiative of the branch organizations and associations. As to the report, the new professional holiday is intended to honor the workers of the vine-and-winemaking and horticultural industries, celebrate their achievements and popularize Ukrainian horticulture, viticulture and winemaking. Reportedly, today the area of Ukrainian fruit/berry plantations and vineyards is about 270,000 ha (1% of the area of agricultural land). At the same time, the output of fruit and grapes actually provides 1 permanent and several seasonal jobs per 1 ha of plantings. Thus, a large number of Ukrainians work in horticulture, wine-growing and winemaking, thanks to which these sectors provide significant revenues to budgets of different levels, promote rural development and boost the country export potential.
