23.01.2018 09:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of this week, the first-ever Ukrainian Christmas Tree Challenge flashmob was held within Zhytomyr region, Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food says referring to the Ukrainian State Agency of Forestry report.
As to the report, the event is aimed at focusing the population attention on the problem of the size of drying forests within Ukraine.
Repoertedly, to participate within flashmob, journalists, scholars, activists and police representatives were invited. The flashmob participants lined up in the form of a «live» green fir tree, thus demonstrating the unity of thoughts and views. Now, the Zhytomyr foresters pass the flashmob battalion on to their colleagues throughout Ukraine.
It is to be admitted, within just last year, within the Zhytomyr region bark beetles damaged almost 10% of coniferous forests, with 22,000 ha being already «dead». The pearl of the region - the Polissya Natural Reserve - has also suffered from the bark beetles, with over 400 ha covered with «dead» trees.
It is to be mentioned, similar problems of drying trees due to bark beetles are now faced by Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Belarus, Canada and North America. It is to be admitted, presently, at this stage, within the entire global practice there is no other way of controlling the pest beetles but «cleaning» the sick forest areas and planting new trees.
