UN official: Growth and sustainable development key to Asia-Pacific future

As of yesterday, the ASEAN Economic Integration Forum 2017 opened in Bangkok (Thailand), UN Radio reports.
It is to be admitted, the ASEAN is the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. It was established as of Aug 1967; it brings together 10 countries within the region.
As to the report, leaders from across Asia met in Bangkok to promote more inclusive growth, particularly through empowering women and youth and by promoting sustainable economic development.
As to the report, Dr Shamshad Akhtar, Head of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) addressed the opening session of the two-day forum.
As to the report, Akhtar said that over its 50-year history, ASEAN «has demonstrated the virtues and high dividends of regional cooperation, both for development and peace and security which reinforce each other».
She added that «Working together and building on ASEAN’s experience, we have an opportunity to take integration in Asia and the Pacific a step further and support growth, jobs and sustainable development across Asia and the Pacific».
