UN Chief calls for collective action against drug abuse
27.06.2017 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
While speaking within a message to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (annually Jun 26), UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged countries to honour their commitments to address drug abuse and trafficking, UN Radio reports.
As to the report, he also reminded governments of the pledges they had made at a UN General Assembly meeting last year.
As to the report, the UN Chief reminded that the General Assembly Special Session on the World Drug Problem had charted «a new path forward» that was more humane and would leave no one behind.
Reportedly, the follow-up process, he said, has provided a framework for countries to learn from each other and share best practices.
As to the report, the Secretary-General added that «Despite the risks and challenges inherent in tackling this global problem, I hope and believe we are on the right path, and that together we can implement a coordinated, balanced and comprehensive approach that leads to sustainable solutions.»
