Guterres: African nations among world largest hosts of refugees

26.05.2017 09:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — As of yesterday, within his message to commemorate this year Africa Day (marked annually May 25), UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said African nations are now among the world largest and most generous hosts of refugees, UN Radio reports. It is to be admitted, as to estimates by the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, the continent hosts 26% of the global refugee population. As to Guterres, the UN partnership with Africa is based on mutual respect, solidarity, complementarity and interdependence — but is also rooted in a sense of deep gratitude, since the majority of peacekeepers around the world come from there. It is to be reminded the first-ever United Nations — African Union Annual Conference was held within this year Apr aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two organisations. It is to be admitted, within his message the Secretary-General promised to reaffirm his commitment to Africa «as a partner, friend and advocate for changing the narrative about this diverse and vital continent».
