Ministry of Agrarian Policy recognized it couldn’t optimize sunflower sown areas

As to Oleksandr Baranivskiy, Acting Minister of Agrarian Policy, selector meeting report theses, Ministry has recognized within this year it failed to optimize country sunflower sown areas up to ecological safety level. «This year sunflower sown areas are 233,000 ha up against previous year,» declared Baranivskiy. Baranivskiy is convinced the only way to resolve problem of admissible sunflower sown areas exceeding is to enlarge other oil crops (rape, soybeans and oil flax) sown areas. As earlier reported, this year sunflower sown areas share 15% total country sown areas structure (down against last year 14.4%). Within this year agricultural companies have been actively sowing sunflower despite authorities recommendations/appeals. 2005 sunseeds crop had grown to 4.706 mn MT (in terms of weight after additional processing), up 1.656 mn MT (+ 54.3%) against 2004. 2005 sunseeds production profitability had declined to 24.7% (down against 45.2% in 2004). Domestic agrarians are actively growing sunflower due to considering it one of most liquid crops.
