31.03.2017 21:19 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of today, while speaking within at the National Council of Reforms meeting, Ukrainian
President Petro Poroshenko has emphasized that the issue of high-quality and modern education in Ukraine is the issue of extraordinary importance and responsibility.
«This is nothing but drafting and modeling our future, the future of Ukraine. For it fully depends on the educational code delivered to our Ukrainian youth by our Ukrainian schools. To the generation deprived of complexes and superstitions, generation that will play a definitive role in the development of our state in the future,» Poroshenko said.
The President is confident that gifted and talented people are the main asset of Ukraine.
As to the President, presently about 10 million Ukrainian citizens study in secondary schools, institutions of professional-technical education and higher education institutions. «The issue of education is a top priority for our State,» he said.
«Ukraine has an extensive network of secondary schools inherited from the Soviet times. An extensive network is a plus, but there are definitely minuses as well. This extensive network doesn’t meet modern requirements,» the President said. He added that basic knowledge in modern science must be updated given the world development. Previously, it happened every 50 years, then every 40 years, then every 30. Today, it needs some updates on major types of science every 510 years. And we cannot do without modern interactive methods of education today, as stated by the President.
«That is why we feel a great public request for the reform of secondary education. We must ensure equal access to high-quality education for all children irrespective of their residence, social status or physical capabilities,» the President emphasized.
«School must not only become a source of knowledge, but also teach our children how to study, think and make decisions independently. This is probably one of the most important lessons they must learn from school. I am sure they must focus not on the accumulation of knowledge, but on their practical implementation,» he concluded.
