13.01.2017 15:11 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
There has been an «alarming» boost in the number of unaccompanied or separated children reaching Italy within the past year, UN Radio says referring to the UNICEF (UN Children’s Fund) report.
As to the report, about 26,000 children arrived in Italy within 2016 (up twice against 2015), representing a «staggering» 91% of all children reaching the Italian coast within 2016 as refugees or migrants.
Reportedly, local authorities are failing to properly protect children.
As to the report, the top 4 countries of origin for incoming children are Eritrea, Egypt, Gambia and Nigeria.
