Government to finalize Ukrainian Energy Strategy before yearend
12.10.2016 12:41 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of yesterday, while speaking within a meeting of the Ukrainian Regional Development Council under the chairmanship of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groisman said the Government will finalize the Ukrainian Energy Strategy before the yearend, thus providing measures to achieve the country energy independence, Government Portal reports.
«Our energy strategy on which we are working and will complete this work by the end of this year stipulates that we need to consume less energy and to do it more effectively and to increase our own production of energy resources in order for our country was independent. So that to end the one-side contract, which was inked in 2009,» Groisman said.
He reminded that under the terms of the contract, Ukraine buys gas at a price of US$450 per 1,000 cubic meters up to the principle «whether you take or don’t take, you must pay».
And so, because of the difference in gas prices, today Ukraine has lost US$53 milliard and has got the claim from the Russian Federation in the amount of US$40 milliard.
As to the report, while speaking about priorities specified by the Government in the 2017 draft Budget, the Prime Minister emphasized creation of the Energy Efficiency Fund. The Government expects that the Fund will receive UAH4 milliard, which will be fully invested into Ukrainian energy conservation sphere.
«Today we should be not an importer, but an exporter of energy resources and for this we’ve got a lot to do,» Groisman stressed.
