Global aviation industry signs "historic" deal to cut emissions
10.10.2016 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of last week, the global aviation industry reached a «historic» deal to cut harmful greenhouse gas emissions by 2020, UN Radio says referring to a senior official with the UN International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) senior official report.
As to the report, the deal in Montreal, Canada was signed after the entry into force of the UN-led climate change accord, known as the Paris Agreement, in which countries agreed to reduce carbon emissions in order to keep temperature rises to below to 2 degrees Celsius.
As to the report, since 2020, any boosts in emissions in the aviation industry will have to be offset or balanced by activities like tree-planting or clean-energy projects.
