UN: Agricultural and food policies must change

23.06.2016 09:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — As of yesterday, the UN High-level Task Force (HLTF) on Global Food and Nutrition Security held a meeting chaired by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, UN Radio reports. As to the report, within the meeting the UN experts stressed the agricultural and food policies should be «people-centred and climate-compatible» to make food systems sustainable. It is to be admitted, the Task Force was established in 2008 in order to help forge united positions among UN agencies particularly during recent food crises. Within the meeting the UN experts admitted that now about one milliard people around the world face chronic hunger and so ending hunger and malnutrition is an essential part of sustainable development. As to the report, while speaking within the meeting, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon recounted his recent visits to Ethiopia and Madagascar and voiced his deep concern about the effects that El Niño had on the resilience, food security and nutrition of the most vulnerable people.
