US$500 million appeal launched for two million refugees
19.05.2016 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of yesterday, the UNHCR ( UN Refugee Agency) Chief Filippo Grandi made an appeal to raise US$500 million fund to provide shelter for two million refugees worldwide, UN Radio reports.
As to Grandi, war and conflict are behind a global displacement crisis thats left the UNHCR needing half-a-billion US dollars to help two million people. Grandi admitted that the past decade had seen a sharp rise in the number of people on the move, currently estimated at 60 million globally.
Also, Grandi stressed that «no refugee should be left outside».
He described shelter as a «foundation stone» for refugees survival that should be a «non-negotiable human right».
The UN Refugee Agency Chief warned that without a major boost in donations, millions of people fleeing war and persecution would face homelessness or inadequate housing from Lebanon to Mexico to Tanzania.
