Ban: Climate action a matter of survival for small island states
09.05.2016 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
As of yesterday, while speaking at the Seychelles National Assembly,
the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said climate action and sustainable development are a matter of survival for small island states like the Seychelles, UN Radio reports.
As to the report, Ban also praised the contribution these countries had made to global efforts to address climate change.
Reportedly, Ban spoke about «the universal project» of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that seek to create a healthy planet where all people live in dignity.
As to him, the 17 goals are interconnected and cannot be carried out in isolation.
As to Ban, small island states like the Seychelles serve as «a magnifying lens» for many of the climate and development issues that all nations must face, and so their experiences, commitment and insights are «invaluable» in global discussions on climate change.
