UN: Global city boom could cut rich vs poor health divide
01.04.2016 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The key global goal of extending health coverage for all people is proving hard to achieve, but it could be helped by the worlds growing urban population, UN Radio says referring to the UN yesterday report.
It is to be admitted, the report is based on the research of the city-dwellers in nearly 100 countries; the report found that besides health inequality, urbanization offers major opportunities to improve peoples life expectancy.
As to the report, cities are growing within all the world and today over half the planets population lives in the cities (thats around 3.7 milliard people).
The report shows
that as the worlds urban population continues to grow, health inequality is never far behind.
This health gap is especially clear in less well-off countries, with children in the poorest urban households twice as likely to die before their fifth birthday compared with their richer counterparts.
It is to be admitted, as to the joint World Health Organization (WHO) / UN-Habitat report, at least 400 million women, men and children around the world presently don’t have access to affordable health care.
