Work together to fight terrorism and climate change, Ban urges G20
17.11.2015 08:02 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
While speaking within a news conference on Sun at the summit of the worlds 20 leading economies, the G20 in Antalya (Turkey), the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon said that the world leaders must work together to fight terrorism and the harmful effects of climate change, UN Radio reports.
As to the report, Ban Ki-moon told that there needed to be a «robust» response to the horrific attacks in Paris which killed at least 129 people.
But he also noted the dozens killed by other attacks in Beirut and Baghdad in recent days, which were also claimed by the extremist group, ISIL.
He cautioned against an over-reaction to the terrorist outrage, otherwise, he said, «we will only fan the fire we are trying to put out.»
The UN, he said, was busy preparing a comprehensive Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism, which he will present soon.
While speaking on Syria and the Middle East in general, he said there was a «growing global call for a recovery plan», that might resemble the billion-dollar Marshall Plan bailout for Europe, following the Second World War.
But with the COP21 climate change conference only a few weeks away from opening in Paris, Ban said the priority of trying to agree a limit to greenhouse gas emissions should not be over-looked.
Ban admitted that the world leaders of the G20 needed to step in immediately to help move forward final negotiations between their own teams, for the sake of progress.
«They need clear guidance from you,» he told while speaking within a working lunch on climate and development, adding «there is no time left.»
