World leaders are set to adopt the new global goals at a summit at the UN in New York on Fri and childrens well-being are being given particular attention, UN Radio reports referring to the UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson.
As to Eliasson, children are the «future custodians» of the planet and so the needs and aspirations of children are expected to be at the core of future development efforts.
While speaking at the «Children and the Sustainable Development Goals» event, Eliasson told that everyone from government to civil society to the private sector has a role to play in ensuring the well-being of children.
As to the report, Eliasson said one needs to look no further than the dramatic and disturbing impact of conflict and violence on children to realize that more must be done.
«We have all been shocked, heartbroken and angry by the images of the recent refugee crisis. We need to be reminded both about our legal obligations and the demands of solidarity and compassion,» he admitted.
Besides, Eliasson also admitted that access to education and employment opportunities are some of the other key areas of concern for the youth.
