Abromavicius: additional import taxes may be lifted from Jan

The Ukrainian Economic Development and Trade Minister Aivaras Abromavicius has said there
are no barriers to the abolition from the next year Jan 1 of additional import taxes, which were introduced in this year Feb to stabilize the countrys balance of payments, UNIAN reports referring to the Ministry press service.
As to Abromavicius, a thorough analysis of expediency of the additional import taxes has shown that it might be lifted as of Jan 1, 2016.
The Ministry also stresses the importance of macro-financial stabilization, the improvement of the investment climate and economic growth in Ukraine.
As to the earlier report, the Economic Development Ministry emphasized that the introduction of the additional import taxes had had a positive impact on the balance of payments, which had strengthened, and on the foreign currency reserves, which had expanded. The overall economic impact from a reduction in imports amounted to US$1 milliard.
Besides, it is to be admitted, the General Council of the World Trade Organization earlier had confirmed that the introduction of the additional import taxes was in compliance with Ukrainian international obligations.
