22.07.2015 09:17 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The first six months of 2015 were the hottest on record, both on land and in oceans, UN Radio says referring to the WMO (UN World Meteorological Organization) report.
As to the report, the overall average temperature was 0.85 degrees Celsius up against the average of 15.5 degrees recorded for the 20th century
Daniel Dickinson reports
Reportedly, most of the world’s land areas were much warmer than the average in the last years’ first 6 months. These regions include nearly all of Eurasia, South America, Africa, and western North America.
All of Australia was also warmer than the average.
As to the report, Jun 2015 marked the third month within this year that had broken its monthly temperature record, along with Mar and May.
In meanwhile, the WMO experts Clare Nullis says there is a direct relationship between climate change and higher temperatures.
«Its too early to say with complete certainty that is due to climate change, but everything weve seen about this heatwave does conform to what we would expect from climate change scenarios. And the climate change scenarios are that heatwaves will become more frequent, theyll become more intense and they will last for longer,» Clare Nullis admits.
It is to be reminded, within this year Dec the international community is meeting in Paris, France where its hoped a commitment will be made to keep global temperature rises below 2 degrees Celsius.
