Ban: New sights set on financing to eradicate malaria

Tremendous progress has been made in the past decades in the fight against malaria, and the new development agenda sets an opportunity to put an end to the disease, UN Radio reports quoting the
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon as he spoke on Mon at a side-event on malaria financing within the International Conference on Financing for Development in Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia.
It is to be admitted, te objective set by the World Health Organization and the Roll Back Malaria Partnership is to reduce malaria by 90 per cent by 2030.
«We have come far and achieved much over the last 15 years, but there is still much to do. I am confident that with your continued commitment, we will achieve our ultimate goal of a world free of malaria,» Mr. Ban said.
Besides,
the UN Secretary-General highlighted the important role of partnerships in achieving these successes, citing the role played by the Ethiopian Prime Minister and Chair of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance, Hailemariam Dessalegn.
As to the report, Mr. Ban also called for renewed commitment to replenish the Global Fund for Malaria.
