NBU worsens its forecast for Ukrainian GDP decline in 2015
27.04.2015 13:42 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) —
The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has worsened its forecast for the fall in Ukrainian GDP in 2015 to 7.5% compared to its forecast of 5.5% announced in Feb 2015, due to a poorer economic situation in Jan-Feb than was expected, NRCU says referring to the NBU Head Valeriya Gontareva report.
As to Gontareva, the Ukrainian economy has reached its minimum low, but it will resume growing since this year second half beginning. The growth will be prompted by price and currency stabilization as well as the restoration of consumers’ activity.
As to her, it is expected that Ukrainian GDP will grow by 3% in 2016.
Besides, she also admitted that NBU had forecasted that 2015 inflation will reach 30%.
The key risk to the macroeconomic forecast and resumption of the economic growth is the escalation of conflict in eastern Ukraine, which could result in outflow of capital, devaluation and inflation, Gontareva noted.
