Poroshenko: We cannot delay a single day in our struggle against corruption

As of last week, the Ukrainian President held a meeting with Director-General of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) Giovanni Kessler who had been elected a member of the commission on the appointment of Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports.
«One of the main priorities in 2015 is principled, consistent and efficient struggle against corruption,» Poroshenko emphasized. The President expects that the experience of recognized commission members will help them choose decent leader in the anti-corruption sphere.
Poroshenko also told that the first meeting of the commission was to be held by January 14. «We cannot delay the appointment of Director and the beginning of the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s operation,» the Head of State has noted.
In his turn, Giovanni Kessler has expressed gratitude for trust and expressed readiness to actively participate in the preparation and holding of the first meeting of the commission.
As to Poroshenko, the first task of the newly-established Anti-Corruption Bureau will be to investigate and return funds stolen by Yanukovych’s regime, create the special group on the control over the financial resources that will be allocated by the EU in the form of grants, credits and special programs.
As to the report, the President emphasized that successful operation of the Bureau will be crucially important for the implementation of reforms and the creation of the atmosphere of trust in Ukraine. «We want to change the situation, break the old corrupt system and create a new efficient anti-corruption mechanism,» the Head of State has noted.
Reportedly, under present Ukrainian legislation, the Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau shall begin his work on January 24, 2015. This is also provided for in the coalition agreement.
It is to be admitted, the commission consists of 9 persons elected by the President, the Cabinet of Ministers and Verkhovna Rada: Refat Chubarov, Yevhen Zakharov, Yaroslav Hrytsak, Josef Zissels, Oleksandra Yanovska, Yuriy Butusov, Yevhen Nishchuk, Viktor Musiyaka and Giovanni Kessler.
