Conference on Education for Sustainable Development opens in Japan

Just to achieve sustainable development, technology, political regulations and financial incentives is not enough, UN Radio says referring to Irina Bokova, UNESCOs Director-General, report.
People need to change the way they think and act as individuals and as societies which is the aim of ESD, she adds.
Ms. Bokova was speaking at the opening of a conference to promote Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in Nagoya, Japan.
It is to be admitted, the UN Cultural Agency UNESCO and the Government of Japan are the organizers of this three-day event.
The establishment of a UNESCO-Japan prize of $50,000 was also announced.
It will be awarded annually to three individuals or organizations over the next five years for their outstanding work regarding ESD.
The prize will enhance the visibility of the Global Action Programme on ESD also called GAP, a follow-up of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development.
