Horn of Africa receives US$8 milliard for development

International donors have pledged US$8 milliard in new development aid for the Horn of Africa, according to the United Nations, UN Radio reports.
As to report, on Monday leaders of global and regional institutions began a trip to east Africa to pledge new support and financial assistance for stability and development.
The initiative covers eight countries, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda.
In meanwhile, the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has said the countries are making important progress in economic growth and political stability.
He admitted now it is a crucial moment to support their efforts.
Meanwhile, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim said this new financing will ensure people in the Horn of Africa get access to clean water, nutritious food, health care, education, and jobs.
The region is vulnerable to corruption, piracy, arms and drug trafficking.
The new funds will support efforts to tackle the root causes of these problems.
