Countries from around the world will meet on the island in the first week of September to discuss the challenges faced by the Small Islands Developping States (SIDS), UN Radio reports.
As to report, these developing states are using the conference in the Pacific Ocean nation of Samoa to reach out to the international community for support.
Climate change, sustainable development and disaster risk reduction are expected to be amongst the main themes.
Aliioaiga Feturi Elisaia, the Permanent Representative to the UN for Samoa, says the conference provides a crucial opportunity to build partnerships.
«We are reaching out to development partners. We are reaching out to the UN to use their global networks, so that the message is shared with colleagues in capitals, where a lot of decisions are taken,» Mr. Aliioaiga Feturi Elisaia said.
It is to be admitted, this is the third time ever that the international community has met to focus on small island developing states.
Its hoped the conference will also contribute to the elaboration of the Post-2015 development agenda, which is currently being defined by UN Member States.
