The Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin has sent a letter to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon asking for a three-month extension to the mandate of the UN human rights monitoring mission, NRCU reports referring to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry press office.
The press office says Ukraine is interested in presence of UN human rights mechanisms and their support of processes aimed at ensuring and protecting human rights and basic freedoms in Ukraine.
«The situation in Ukraine demands the closest attention in eastern Ukraine and Crimea,» the press office admits.
As to the report, the main task of the mission is to study the human rights situation at various sites, with special emphasis on south-eastern Ukraine and to compose relevant reports for the office of the UN commissioner on human rights.
It is to be admitted, the UN monitoring mission on human rights has been working in Ukraine since March 15 on the invitation of the Ukrainian government.
