A new US$100 million response plan has been launched to intensify efforts to bring the Ebola outbreak under control at the international, regional and national level, UN Radio reports referring to the Presidents of the West African nations and the Head of the World Health Organization (WHO) statement made in Guinea on last week Friday.
As to the statement, the local treatment facilities are already overstretched, although hundreds of international aid workers are already on the ground.
The Plan has identified the need for several more personnel to be deployed in the affected countries.
As to report, Guinea-Bissau has no known cases but the countrys Prime Minister Domingos Simões Pereira has already made emergency plans.
«Health is a big issue here. You know the West African coast is facing Ebola so we are taking measures to prevent the entrance of this disease and make sure that if any case appears in Guinea-Bissau, we should be able to take care of it.»
Besides, WHO also says the scale of the ongoing outbreak is unprecedented, with approximately 1323 confirmed and suspected cases reported.
Over 700 people have died in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone since March 2014.
