Ukrainian President paid tribute to deceased in years of war

23.06.2014 12:14 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — Within last week, on the occasion of the Day of Mourning and Remembrance of war victims in Ukraine, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko took part in the ceremony of paying tribute to the deceased, President Petro Poroshenko Press Office reports. The Head of State laid flowers to the grave of Unknown Soldier in the Park of Eternal Glory in Kyiv. Together with the President, the ceremony was also attended by Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Presidents of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, Leonid Kuchma and Viktor Yushchenko, Head of Kyiv CSA Volodymyr Bondarenko, veterans, members of the Cabinet of Ministers, representatives of clergy and the public. The participants paid tribute to the fallen warriors with a moment of silence. Speaking to media representatives, the Head of State said: «Today is one of the most difficult days in our history - June 22. It is a day that taught the people of Ukraine the most important thing - to love peace. It is a day that reminds us all of the terrors and horrors of war». «Both my grandfathers have been in the war since the first days. That is why, in our family, it is a day that reminds us of peace and terrors of war. Grandfather Ivan finished his military path in Prague where he was wounded in the last day of the war. Grandfather Serhiy finished his military path in Germany. Grandfather of my wife, unfortunately, went missing in battles near Odesa in November 1941. We have always respected grandfathers, ancestors and we knew the price of peace,» Petro Poroshenko said. The President emphasized that the issue of war has become a reality in Ukraine again. «That’s why two days ago, in the course of my stay in the area of the CTO, I have made a decision to give peace a chance. Ukrainian Armed Forces, the National Guard and the border guards unilaterally ceased fire and they will do so until June 27,» Petro Poroshenko stressed. The Head of State noted that he does everything to persuade people who live in Donbas that it is necessary to achieve peace. The President wished everyone peace and noted that he has no doubt that today’s day will bring us closer to the peaceful process of resolving the situation in the east of Ukraine.
