Ministry of Agrarian Policy forecasts 2006 sugar prices growth due to raw sugar world prices rise

Speaking on yesterday Poltava press-conference, Oleksandr Baranivskiy, Minister of Agrarian Policy, declared Ministry forecasts gradual sugar prices growth within 2006 due to this Jan cane raw sugar world prices 150% jump up to US$500/t.
«Cane raw sugar price was US$250/t, — now it is US$500/t. Though price won’t stay motionless, yet, there is no reason for its extraordinary boosting. Presently we have sugar reserves, — but not as big as we would like to have,» admitted Baranivskiy.
He also said Russian domestic market sugar price is higher as of Ukrainian similar and therefore Ministry of Agrarian Policy would initiate Ukrainian less expensive sugar export ban.
«To prevent our sugar be sold practically at no cost in Russia,» stated Minister.
As earlier reported, this year Jan Ukrainian domestic market sugar prices had boosted
to UAH3.4–4.05/kg (up 0.6–16.5% against Dec 2004) on 24 regions markets.
It is to be reminded, this Thurs raw sugar world market prices have boosted by 4.7%
(24 years record) in expectation of Russia (raw sugar biggest importer) demand growth.
