Ukrainian budget to fully fund sports in 2014

According to the approved State budget 2014, the funding of physical culture and sports will significantly increase in Ukraine. Thus, the spending for this area in 2014 will amount to 4.2 billion UAH, which is by 25.2% (0.8 billion UAH) more year-on-year, ForUm reports referring to the Information-Analytical Bulletin of the Ukrainian Cabinet.
Experts say part of the allocated funds, namely 680.2 million UAH, will be used for the development of physical culture and sports in general.
Much of the money is budgeted for the preparation and participation of national teams in competitions at various levels. Thus, for the preparation and participation of teams in the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi, Russia, in the II Summer Youth Olympic Games in 2014, as well as in winter Deaflympics 2015, 83.1 million UAH is budgeted. It’s also worth noting that the State reserved 232.3 million UAH for development of sports and rehabilitation for disabled.
Experts say in 2014 Ukraine will hold the final tournament of the European Basketball Championship 2015. For proper preparation and holding of such a significant sporting event, 401.2 million UAH is budgeted for 2014.
Experts note that the sports events of international level are an important aspect of promoting a positive image of Ukraine. Thus, in August 2013, Ukraine already successfully held the junior European Basketball Championship (U- 16). The next important step will be to hold European Basketball Championship in 2015.
