President Viktor Yanukovych hopes that the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement will be ratified by the current members of the European Parliament whose term expires next year, NRCU reports.
Meeting in Kyiv on Friday with a delegation from the European Parliament’s Alliance of Liberals and Democrats, Yanukovych said: «Communication with the European Parliament is very important to Ukraine. We know that the mechanism of our future relations with the EU will largely depend on the position of the European Parliament. Our political relations give us optimism and we vitally need to keep up this dialog. We expect the European Parliament’s resolution to reflect its unanimous position with regard to the signing and implementation of the Association Agreement, and also hope that this very parliament will vote to ratify the agreement and make this historic step together with Ukraine,» Yanukovych said. Members of the European Parliament’s delegation, in turn, praised Ukraine’s progress in fulfilling the requirements for signing the Association Agreement. «There are real positive changes in Ukraine, and not only in economy and politics, but also in electoral legislation,» said Annemie Neyts-Uyttebroek, coordinator of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats.
