PM Azarov: Ukraine settles foreign obligations on time, in full

Ukraine settles its external obligations always on time and in full, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said this at a meeting with Head of IMF Mission to Ukraine Nikolay Gueorguiev on Thursday, NRCU reports.
«Measures adopted by the government have helped stabilize the situation related to the balance of payments. We fulfill all our obligations in full, and for us 2013 is absolutely clear in terms of commitments on foreign payments. We have no concerns about their settlement,» Azarov noted. He also said that in Ukraine there is quite a difficult financial and economic situation, which is primarily associated with a decrease in global demand for traditional Ukrainian exports metal, ore. Therefore, Ukraine was forced to take strict measures on the fiscal discipline and introduce some the restrictive measures in respect of imported products, the prime minister explained. Azarov added that the governments programme to revitalize the economy provides for redirecting 4.5 million tons of metal for use in the domestic market. According to the premier, in particular, it will help ensure the growth of the gross domestic product. The head of government also said that over the past three years, domestic sales in Ukraine increased by nearly 50%, ensuring GDP growth by almost 10% in two years. «We carry out a flexible policy that allows us to maintain a stable situation in the country,» Azarov emphasized. In turn, the new Head of IMF Mission to Ukraine Nikolay Gueorguiev said: «I hope that we can provide a fruitful cooperation for the benefit of the Ukrainian people.»
