VR imposed excise duty on cognac alcohol: UAH16/l of 100% alcohol

24.06.2004 11:03 "Agro Perspectiva" (Kyiv) — Verkhovna Rada, having last week adopted Law "About bringing changes into 2004 State Budget", has introduced excise duty on cognac alcohol: UAH16/l of 100% alcohol. Draft Law "About bringing changes into 2004 State Budget" was backed by 243 people’s deputies with 226 necessary.

In particular, Verkhovna Rada, having on Jun 17 adopted Law "About bringing changes into 2004 State Budget", has also brought changes into Law "About excise rates on ethyl alcohol and alcoholic drinks". It is to be reminded, Law "About bringing changes into 2004 State Budget" stipulates 2004 State Budget profits’ growth to UAH65.2 milliard, up UAH4.5 milliard; expenditures’ growth to UAH72.2 milliard, up UAH8 milliard; deficit’s growth to UAH7.4 milliard, up UAH4 milliard.

As to same Law, domestic agriculture’s financing had raised to UAH3.987 milliard, up UAH1.1 milliard. As earlier reported, Ukrainian Jan-Apr 2004 cognac and brandy output has grown to 534.000dl, up 18.000dl (+ 3.5%) against Jan-Apr 2003. As to State Statistics Committee, domestic 2003 cognac output has grown to 1.596.000dl, up 142.000dl (+9.8%), against Jan-Apr 2002. Presently eleven companies produce cognac in Ukraine, with Odessa Cognac Factory, Company Tavriya (Kherson region), Uzhgorod Cognac Factory (Zakarpatska region) and Company Coctebel (AR of the Crimea) being the biggest ones.
